User Training
This is the most frequently run course. It provides the training required to be given to all 'users' of display screen equipment (under the 1992 DSE Regulations – and as amended in 2002).
The course can be completed in 2 hours, although 3 hours allows for a
more thorough examination of the issues involved.
Users will learn:
- What their responsibilities are
under the DSE Regulations
- How to recognise potential risk
factors for DSE work
- How to set their workstation up to
maximise comfort and reduce any exposure to risk
- How to adopt good work practices
- How to complete a self-assessment

DSE Assessor Training
The relevant 1992 Regulations require that employers make assessments of their work activities where there is a risk of injury. For example, all DSE 'users' should be assessed to ensure that their workstation fulfils the Regulatory requirements and doesn't present risks to the health and safety of the individual worker.
This course can be completed in one
day and would be ideal for those requiring refresher training.
However, for those new to DSE assessment, two days allows for a more thorough explanation of the
issues, and more practice at carrying out assessments. On the two day
course, attendees will also take a written and practical test leading
to certification of competency.
Attendees will learn the same as for the
User Training course above, and in addition:
- About relevant health & safety
legislation, including specific details of the Health & Safety
(Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992, and as amended in 2002
- How to collect information and
assess risks arising from DSE work
- How to draw valid and reliable
conclusions
- How to reduce risk by implementing
relevant control measures
- How to complete assessment forms
- How to manage the assessment
process
Train the Trainer
Attendees will learn the same as for
the DSE Assessor Training course above, and in addition:
- How to develop effective
presentation skills
- How to deal with people
- How to put an effective course
together and which formats to use
This course can be completed in two
days, although three days allows for a more thorough explanation of
the issues, and more practical exercises.
All attendees will be asked to put
together a short presentation demonstrating their knowledge of DSE
issues and
presentation skills.
On the three day course, further
practice assessments will be carried out and attendees will be asked to take a short written
test. Upon successful completion of the practical elements and the
written test, a
competence certificate will be issued.
Further information
All courses will feature elements to
demonstrate how to put theory into practice.
All course attendees will be
presented with relevant printed material.
